Texas Tribune investigation finds that border wall construction has been fragmented, primarily in rural areas.
has revealed that Texas has constructed 50 miles of border wall since 2021, when it became the first state to continue a historically federal project.
Landowners are also putting up resistance, creating what state leaders call a "hurdle" in wall construction. The Texas Legislature has prohibited the use of eminent domain for this project, meaning the wall cannot be constructed on someone's property without their permission. Governor Greg Abbott has launched a new campaign to deter illegal immigration, placing over 40 billboards in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and along the Texas-Mexico border.
This follows the Trump administration's threat of 25 percent tariffs if Canada and Mexico do not increase efforts on migration and drug trafficking.
