There was an astonishing revelation about the Venezuelan migrants arrested this week with squatters in a Bronx, New York apartment building.

FILE - Migrants wait to be processed by the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol after they crossed the Rio Grande and entered the U.S. from Mexico, Oct. 19, 2023, in Eagle Pass, Texas . including one arrested last summer for attempted murder and arrested again a week ago. Both times, the individual was released.

In all of these cases, many now wonder how many of those migrants had criminal pasts in their home country. It's an answer experts say we may never get. "When they say vetted they do not mean any criminal record was checked in Venezuela of people either releasing who they are releasing or paroling at the border. Same with Cuba. The Cubans don’t like us. We’ve been enemies ever since the revolution in 1959 so they don’t give us information," said Simon Hankinson in an interview with Sinclair Thursday.

Hankinson is a longtime Foreign Service officer currently working as a Senior Research Fellow in the Border Security and Immigration Center at The Heritage Foundation."Individuals who seek parole under our Jan. 5 program for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans are screened and vetted before they arrive at our border," Mayorkas said.to the Department of Homeland Security, with concerns not only about migrants with criminal backgrounds but also those with terrorist ties.

They said they have still not gotten answers about the extent of the threat from individuals already inside our country.
