One person was killed in a suspected fall at Rock Canyon Park, according to the Provo Police Department. Provo police identified the man as 33-year-old Wesson Huff of American Fork. Officials said he was adventuring alone but was known to be an experienced skydiver.
According to Provo police, it appeared he was BASE jumping from atop the canyon and likely had a parachute malfunction.Police said just before 1 p.m. Saturday that first responders were called to Rock Canyon after reports of a man who had fallen. “All we know is that somebody was out here recreating and was seen falling off one of the large rock faces behind us and, unfortunately, did not survive the fall,” said Janna-Lee Holland, a public information officer with the Provo Police Department.“I was going to go rock climbing,” said Tyler Brown. “There were police cars at the entrance to the parking lot. They were turning people away, saying the canyon and parking lot were closed.” “There’s always risk when doing things outdoors, especially in this area.
