The Miami Heat returned 12 players from last season's roster and their fans are buzzing with excitement following the debut of their new starting lineup who finally took the court together in a preseason matchup against the Spurs and showed them why continuity and veterans matter in the NBA.
Both teams found a way to showcase the young talent in a game where the nerves and intensity on the court were palpable. Spurs rookie Stephon Castle finished with 6 points and 5 assists but suffered through a missed four attempts from beyond the three-point line while finishing 1-5 from the field overall.
“We had way too many turnovers today,” said Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan. “So it's just, you know, learning from a team like that who's experienced and, you know, being through battles.” “We didn't play the G League guys, but our guys that are playing are almost as young as the G League guys, so they need the time, too,” said Gregg Popovich about his choice of roster lineups. “Probably about the same, maybe a few more minutes.”
