Expensive Offseason Could Turn Mariners Franchise Back To Winning Ways

The Seattle Mariners might have to spend a boatload of money to drastically improve at their two biggest positions of need this winter.

From top to bottom, their rotation was dominant, consistently tossing quality starts and keeping the team in just about every game.Seattle's offense was so bad, though, it didn't matter how good its pitching staff was. The offense was so bad last season that the Mariners could only watch as the Houston Astros stole the American League West and marched into the postseason.

'The Mariners had the best rotation in baseball and still didn't make the postseason because of a weak offense that led the majors in strikeouts. They're looking to put the ball in play more and are focused on improving the infield corners,' Bowden wrote. 'Several strong corner infielders — including Pete Alonso and Christian Walker at first base and Alex Bregman and Willy Adames at third base — are free agents.
