Expect 10 to 15 storms in next 5 months - PAGASA

Expect around ten to 15 tropical cyclones to hit the country from June to October, the state weather bureau said Saturday.

," Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration weather specialist Benison Estareja said. [Translation: Some will make landfall, particularly in Luzon and Visayas. The ones that will not hit land will enhance the southwest monsoon in the western part of the country.]While the El Niño could emerge before August, Estareja said extreme weather events such as typhoons and heavy rains were still expected in the third quarter of 2023.

The agency is currently monitoring a cloud cluster east of Mindanao which may develop into a low pressure area within the next 48 hours, just days afterIt could linger outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility for the next two to three days, but could enter early next week, Estareja said.
