A family relocates to Greece, discovering a more affordable and enriching lifestyle compared to their previous life in the United States. They share their experiences of reduced living costs, increased family time, and the joy of immersing themselves in a new culture.
An expat family living on $136,000 per year in Greece finds their lifestyle more affordable and fulfilling compared to the United States. Megan West, a luxury travel concierge and content creator, relocated to the Greek island of Syros in June 2024 with her husband and daughter after a year of nomadic living in places like Portugal and Belize. West earns approximately $136,000 annually, which allows her family to live comfortably in Greece , even though her husband was able to stop working.
Moving to Greece wasn't cheap, with West and her husband, Harley, spending around $15,000 in June 2024, covering expenses such as first and last month's rent, flights, visa applications, and attorney fees. While their initial costs were higher, they won't face recurring expenses like security deposits or visa-related legal fees. West acknowledges that they had around $60,000 in credit card debt at the end of the previous year but are optimistic about paying it off by reducing their living expenses in Greece. She plans to consult a financial advisor to manage their finances effectively.West expresses her satisfaction with their Greek lifestyle, emphasizing the slower pace of life, increased family time, and the ability to afford luxuries that were previously out of reach in the United States. She highlights the enriching experiences of immersing themselves in a new culture, language, and traditions, which they find more fulfilling compared to their life in the United States
