A Collin County judge last month signed an order scheduling the execution of Moises Mendoza, a death row inmate convicted of killing a young mother over 20 years ago and attempting to hide the crime by burning her body.
In March 2004, relatives of Tolleson reported the 20-year-old mother was missing. Her 5-month-old daughter was found alone in their Farmersville home, where her bedroom was in disarray, with furniture and papers out of place and a broken headboard.A responding Farmersville police officer likened the state of the bedroom to the aftermath of a tornado, according to court records.
Mendoza confessed to killing Tolleson after he was arrested, according to court records. In his telling to investigators, Tolleson willingly left her child alone to join him outside her home in his pickup, where he choked her before taking her to a field. He said they had sex before he choked her again, and then he “poked her throat” with a knife to “assure her death.”Mendoza initially left her body in the field.
