Very few people know what planning goes into a royal tour – and the process of selecting who gets chosen to cover it. In 2019, when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visited South Africa, Lifestyle Editor Herman Eloff and I were part of the media contingent that followed them around town, and let me tell you, it's as well-organised and simultaneously chaotic as you might think.
In an interview, photographer Kent Gavin, who followed the royal family for more than 20 years, tells me of his time in the field – and getting to work closely with Diana, Princess of Wales. "I just got on with her so well. We just became, on a professional basis, very good friends.
