The queen of country talks to Newsweek about her new rock album, iconic style and music industry breakthroughs: 'I just do what my heart tells me.'
A funny thing happened last year when country music legend Dolly Parton was nominated for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame: She said no. While 'extremely flattered,' she said in a Twitter statement, 'I don't feel that I have earned that right.
That's been true through the years, whether you're in country music or rock-and-roll, you're going to always get some of that . I've always been glad that I had a chance to do my thing. But I think it's great women are being allowed to do so much more than they used to get played more on the radio. I think we're getting more of a chance now than we used to in all the fields of music.
