TheBlacklist season 10 is set to introduce Siya, the daughter of CIA agent Meera Malik who was murdered in season 1.
The Blacklist season 10 will pay off a character death in a way that's a decade in the making. Debuting on NBC in 2013, with James Spader as Raymond Reddington, The Blacklist kicked off with the relatively simple premise of Spader's skilled criminal helping the FBI in exchange for immunity. Since then, the show has evolved to include several complex storylines and plot twists, as well as major character additions and shocking departures.
One of the first surprise exits occurred at the end of The Blacklist season 1, as CIA agent Meera Malik was killed off. Meera had been an original member of Red's special task force, and the show blindsided viewers when her throat was slit by an assassin in a nightclub. It was an early jarring moment in the history of the NBC drama, setting the tone for many more jaw-dropping exits to come.
The addition of this new character comes as The Blacklist has lost two series mainstays recently: Amir Arison, who played Aram Mojtabi, and Laura Sohn in the role of Alina Park. Both actors were written off in a way that they could return, with Aram mentioning that he needed time away and Alina going on medical leave. Siya's arrival comes, as well, after the game-changing loss of Megan Boone as Liz Keen. A former co-lead, Liz's death fundamentally altered The Blacklist back in season 8.
The forthcoming debut of Siya, with her familial connection to Meera, speaks to the strength of a show that can look into its past stories and find something new. Her arrival should be rewarding for long-time viewers, demonstrating that the earliest episodes won't be forgotten despite the many intervening years. It's also worth remembering that Meera had a complicated history with the task force and had betrayed them before.
