AFL: Essendon coach Brad Scott chats to media after a round five clash with the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium.

Essendon might be riding high from their best performance of the year so far, but coach Brad Scott is not getting carried away by their convincing five-goal win over the Western Bulldogs .

But when asked whether the Bombers’ impressive display could serve as the foundation for a promising season ahead, Scott did not waste time in pouring cold water over that suggestion. “We were really good in stoppage/centre bounce area for the first three weeks and then we got taught a lesson in basically two quarters .

“You just look around the competition, it’s just tight and even the really good teams are a little bit off, they’re vulnerable and we’re in a position where we’re trying to assert ourselves in game against good opposition and we’ve clearly got a long way to go in that space.
