Former Vikings defensive coordinator Adam Zimmer’s October death was caused by chronic alcohol abuse, according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office.on Oct. 31. The medical examiner’s office reported Zimmer’s death was caused by “complications of chronic ethanol use disorder.”Zimmer’s coaching career started with the Saints as an assistant linebackers coach. He won a Super Bowl with New Orleans during the 2009 season.
Zimmer later joined his father in Minnesota in 2014, where he eventually rose to Minnesota’s co-defensive coordinator role, a position he split with Andre Patterson in 2020. Mike Zimmer, along with most of his staff including his son, was fired at the end of the 2021 season.
