Harry Reid is endorsing former Vice President Joe Biden for president.

Reid, a Democrat and former Senate majority leader, retired in 2016.

But he remains a powerful political kingmaker in Nevada and has maintained a longstanding relationship with Biden, who also spent more than three decades in the Senate. Monday's announcement delivers on Reid's promise not to endorse ahead of Nevada's closely watched presidential caucus. It also counts as the latest sign that establishment Democrats are rallying around Biden, and against progressive firebrand Bernie Sanders, ahead of Super Tuesday – when more than one-third of delegates to the Democratic National Convention are awarded.

Former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg and U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., have both dropped their White House bids and indicated they would endorse Biden ahead of the crucial spate of presidential nominating contests.
