Craig Guildford left Nottinghamshire last year to become the Chief Constable of West Midlands Police.

The former Chief Constable of Nottinghamshire Police had to ask his officers to help him as he travelled in a taxi that was being driven "erratically." Craig Guildford, who left Nottinghamshire last year to become the Chief Constable of West Midlands Police, was travelling home from a hospital earlier this year when he raised the alarm, Birmingham Live reports.

West Midlands Police has now confirmed details of the incident, first reported by Sky News. The Chief Constable had attended a conference when a member of the official police watchdog suffered a serious injury. Having accompanied the civil servant to Birmingham's Heartlands Hospital, both got into a taxi that the force says began driving "erratically.

"The driver was subsequently given advice about his driving and licence." Mr Guildford had been at the helm of Nottinghamshire Police for five years when he announced his job move last year, with Kate Meynell having since taken over.
