The former Mets general manager thinks the Mets should look elsewhere in free agency.

Alonso, a four-time All-Star and the 2019 NL Rookie of the Year, has spent his entire professional career with the Mets since they drafted him in 2016. But now he‘s entering his free agent offseason with Scott Boras as his agent, meaning he will let the market dictate his value. With around $190 million coming off the books, the Mets will have plenty of room to keep Alonso, which is to say nothing of Cohen’s financial might.

USA TODAY reported in June that Alonso is seeking at least $200 million, which is significantly higher than the seven-year, $158 million offer Alonso got last season from the previous front office and rejected,
