On Wednesday, Manzo received the maximum 18-month prison sentence for each count, which will run concurrently to the seven-year federal sentence he is already serving for orchestrating a 2015 violent assault on Cantin.The case also involved James Mainello, 57, of Bayonne, who pleaded guilty in May 2023 to conspiracy to commit armed robbery.under New Jersey’s No Early Release Act, which requires offenders to serve 85% of their sentence before parole eligibility.
The attackers had assaulted them with a baseball bat, stolen an engagement ring and taken $500 in cash. Dina Manzo, a former star of Bravo’s reality franchise, and Cantin managed to free themselves and call for help.DNA evidence led to Mainello’s arrest in 2019, but further investigation revealed Thomas Manzo’s involvement.
The case has drawn widespread attention due to the Manzos connection to the Bravo series and the brutal nature of the crimes. In a separate federal case, Thomas Manzo admitted to hiring a mob-affiliated hitman to attack Cantin in exchange for a lavish wedding reception hosted at Manzo’s restaurant. Monmouth County Deputy First Assistant Prosecutor Christopher J. Decker and Assistant Prosecutor Caitlin J. Sidley prosecuted the case, which culminated in the sentencing handed down Wednesday by Judge Joseph W.
