A decorated former firefighter has avoided jail after he allowed a 12-year-old boy into his home and gave him booze and vapes. Anthony Lingard, 39, allowed the boy and other children 'free rein' in his home after he 'befriended' a group of young boys in Radcliffe, Bury.
While a firefighter he lived alone at a house in Radcliffe, and became friendly with a boy through his family. Lingard's victim became friends with the boy at school, and was introduced to Lingard. "He now understands what Mr Lingard did was grooming," said the boy's father. "He has manipulated a young boy.
Retired watch commander Steve Wilcock described Lingard as 'eccentric' and 'intelligent', adding: "I don't believe he is predatory."
