On the fourth anniversary of the Hague ruling, former Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario urges President Rodrigo Duterte to raise “before the world” the country’s arbitration award on the West Philippine Sea.

“Four years ago, the Philippines won an overwhelming victory in the Hague against continuing Chinese abuses and establishing that what is ours is ours in the West Philippine Sea ,” del Rosario said in a statement on Sunday.

Years after the international ruling was made, however, Beijing still refuses to acknowledge the Philippines' victory. “In the remaining years of his term, we believe that our president still has the opportunity to fulfill his promise to the Filipino people to raise the Award: this time, not before the Chinese President, but before the world,” del Rosario said.

Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. on Sunday said the country reaffirms"its adherence to the award and its enforcement without any possibility of compromise or change.” The arbitral award, he said, is non-negotiable.
