Former Cleveland pitcher C.C. Sabathia was named on 86.8% of ballots by BBWAA voters.
C.C. Sabathia was elected Tuesday to the National Baseball Hall of Fame by vote of the Baseball Writers' Association of America.CLEVELAND, Ohio — After his retirement, C.C. Sabathia grew fond of telling people who asked that he was born and raised in Vallejo, California, but he “grew up in Cleveland.”
Sabathia is the 34th Hall of Famer to spend a portion of his career with Cleveland, and only the third player drafted and signed by the club to earn induction, joining Dennis Eckersley and Jim Thome . Sabathia retired after 19 big league seasons in 2019, ranking 18th in strikeouts with 3,093 and tied for 47th all-time in wins with 251. In 2010 he became the 14th major leaguer to join the Black Aces with a 21-win season.
Ichiro joined the Mariners in 2001 at age 27 after playing several seasons in Japan, and went on to win both the AL MVP and Rookie of the Year awards, matching Fred Lynn of the Red Sox in 1975 as the only players to accomplish the feat. He totaled 3,089 hits to become the first player with 10 consecutive seasons of 200 or more hits. His 262 hits in 2004 remain the major league record.
