Phillip Brian Topping, a 42-year-old Birmingham resident and former manager at New Pilgrim Federal Credit Union, was charged Friday with embezzlement by a credit union employee, said Prim Escalona, U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Alabama, and FBI Special Agent in Charge Johnnie Sharp, Jr. Topping embezzled about $268,000 from a credit union ATM and a teller cash drawer at the Birmingham-based credit union.Topping faces up to 30 years in federal prison and a $1 million fine if convicted of the charge.
