Shaffiria Dortch, 25, of Mount Morris, is facing animal cruelty charges in connection to her dog's starving death on Oct. 7, 2025, according to the Livingston County Sheriff's Office. Mount Morris, N.Y.
— Shaffiria Dortch, 25, of Mount Morris is accused of letting her dog starve to death last year. Dortch was indicted Feb. 18 on one count of aggravated cruelty to animals and overdriving, torturing and injuring animals, according to the Livingston County Sheriff's Office. "I take a zero-tolerance approach to anyone who abuses animals," said Livingston County District Attorney Ashley Williams. The sheriff's office said deputies responded Oct. 7 to a home on Tallman Road for an eviction. When they entered the home, they found an emaciated dead rottweiler locked inside a kennel."A cornerstone of my administration is to be a voice for the voiceless and to protect those who can't care for themselves, and that includes animals," Williams said. Court paperwork said Dortch dodged investigators for more than two weeks. When she finally answered, documents said she told an investigator she left her home in September due to domestic violence with her boyfriend, and she was staying on friends' couches while she worked at a Family Dollar store. It was later discovered that Dortch's boyfriend had been incarcerated since 2024, according to court paperwork. Dortch claimed an unnamed friend was watching the dog, but court paperwork details multiple conflicting conversations about who was caring for the dog at what times. Dortch was then arrested, arraigned, and released from custody, as the offenses did not qualify for bail under the New York State Bail Reform Act, the sheriff's office said. "The hope behind it is that once an offender who has been convicted of an animal abuse offense is on the registry, then that will cause other individuals in the community, particularly veterinary offices, breeders, individuals who rescue animals, and also farmers and those who have farm animals to look at the registry, ensure that that person isn't hired and has no access to animals, and certainly that animals aren't sold to them," Williams said. The DA's office said Dortch failed to appear for her court appearance Feb. 26 and is now scheduled to appear March 19.A former East Irondequoit teacher took a test for a student and harassed her to lie about the incident, according to misdemeanor complaints.Monroe County Jail deputy arrested in domestic incident A jail bureau deputy for the Monroe County Sheriff's Office has been suspended pending an internal investigation into his arrest this week.Rochester police investigating suspicious death of developmentally disabled man Detectives are looking for anyone who might have known Timothy Green.
