Kingpin and Daredevil from Daredevil Born Again

Wilson Fisk is enforcing anti-vigilante laws in New York City in Daredevil: Born Again, which makes several Marvel heroes potential criminals. Wilson Fisk, better known as the Kingpin, has ascended to power once again, this time through the political sphere.

In Daredevil: Born Again, he secures the mayoral seat of New York City by running on a staunch anti-vigilante platform, vowing to eliminate costumed crimefighters from the city’s streets. This stance pits him directly against the very heroes who have long protected the city from threats beyond conventional law enforcement’s reach. In Marvel Comics, New York City is the home for several heroes, including Spider-Man, Daredevil, and the Fantastic Four. In the MCU timeline, many other heroes appeared in New York, such as the Avengers, but most of these have since retired or died. The few who remain now find themselves at the mercy of Kingpin’s anti-vigilante laws. Wilson Fisk’s laws target any unauthorized crimefighting activity, meaning even superpowered individuals working for the greater good are at risk. Given that most superheroes operate outside the rigid framework of law enforcement, Fisk’s policies would technically criminalize every active hero in the city. 12 Daredevil Has Seemingly Retired in Daredevil: Born Again See Daredevil: Born Again Close Matt Murdock, the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, appears to have stepped away from crimefighting at the start of Daredevil: Born Again. After the shocking murder of his best friend, Foggy Nelson, at the hands of Bullseye, Matt hangs up his suit, retreating into civilian life. However, the very title of the series suggests that this retirement won’t last forever. Related After Daredevil: Born Again's Premiere, I'm Now More Convinced Avengers: Endgame Broke The MCU Timeline Beyond Repair Daredevil: Born Again confirms it, the MCU’s timeline is officially a complete mess. Luckily, the MCU has an opportunity to rectify it in the future. Posts 6 A rebirth is on the horizon, so Matt will presumably return to fight back against Fisk’s reign. When he does so, he’ll be doing so in direct violation of the mayor’s anti-vigilante mandate. As one of Kingpin’s most hated enemies, his return will likely serve as a major catalyst for the heroes still willing to resist. 11 White Tiger Is Currently Incarcerated See Daredevil: Born Again Close Hector Ayala, the MCU’s White Tiger, makes an appearance in Daredevil: Born Again but is quickly taken off the board. Arrested in the second episode for accidentally killing a police officer, White Tiger is quickly incarcerated. Currently represented by Mat Murdock, it’s possible that White Tiger will be released. Should Hector escape custody or be released under special circumstances, he would immediately be considered an outlaw for resuming his heroic activities. He poses a significant threat to Kingpin’s campaign of control and has quickly made his mark in New York City during Daredevil’s retirement. Taking his powers from the mystical amulets he wields, he is a prime target for continued persecution should he ever attempt to resume his role as a vigilante. 10 Kate Bishop Is Operating in New York City See Hawkeye Close The protégé of Clint Barton, Kate Bishop, has been making a name for herself as New York’s rising hero. Having already battled street-level criminals and major threats like Kingpin himself in Hawkeye, she refuses to back down. Her archery skills and quick thinking make her a formidable vigilante, even in the absence of superpowers. With no official backing from law enforcement or the Avengers, Kate is completely independent – though she has been recruited by Kamala Khan into a burgeoning Young Avengers team. As a result, Fisk’s new administration will have no problem labeling her an outlaw. If she continues to operate in the city, she’ll inevitably find herself on a collision course with Kingpin’s forces once again. 9 Spider-Man Is New York’s Only Avenger See Spider-Man: No Way Home Close After the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker is a hero with no official recognition and no support network. With the world forgetting who he is, Spider-Man is now an entirely solo vigilante, navigating crimefighting in anonymity. Despite once being an Avenger, he’s now a rogue hero with no legal standing, making him a prime target for Kingpin’s anti-vigilante campaign. Related 10 Biggest Things Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Did Better Than All Three Live-Action Spider-Man Movie Series In many ways, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is superior to any of the live-action movies thanks to its episodic and expansive nature. Posts 3 Though the world forgot about Pter Parker in No Way Home, Fisk has specifically mentioned him in Daredevil: Brave New World, confirming that he's still operating as a hero. Given his history of opposing Fisk in both comics and other adaptations, their conflict in the MCU seems inevitable. Peter’s commitment to protecting the innocent won’t waver, even under threat of arrest, ensuring that he remains one of Kingpin’s biggest obstacles in his mission to control New York. 8 Punisher Was Last Seen In New York City See The Punisher Close Frank Castle, better known as the Punisher, was last seen waging war on criminals in New York during The Punisher Season 2. His brutal methods and complete disregard for the law would put him directly at odds with Kingpin’s vigilante ban. In fact, Punisher is one of the vigilantes specifically mentioned by Kingpin in Daredevil: Born Again. While Frank Castle attempted to leave the life behind, his violent instincts drew him back into a battle against crime. This culminated in Punisher donning a new Skull Vest and slaughtering a warehouse full of New York City gangsters. Though Punisher is currently absent in Daredevil: Born Again, Kingpin hints that he’s still active and will likely draw the attention of Fisk’s laws. 7 Jessica Jones Is Still Running Alias Investigation In NYC See Jessica Jones Close Jessica Jones remains in New York, still running Alias Investigations. While she tries to keep a low profile, her activities as a private investigator often lead her into conflicts that force her to use her enhanced strength. Jessica has always been skeptical of authority, and a law imposed by Kingpin would be the last thing she’d obey. Related 10 Things The Early MCU Was Criticized For That We All Kind Of Miss Now The early days of the MCU saw the franchise be criticized for things that, quite frankly, now seem like a refreshing change to modern Marvel movies. Posts 6 Jessica Jones might not actively seek out trouble, but she wouldn’t ignore a case if innocent people were in danger. The end of Netflix’s Jessica Jones season 2 saw the hero embrace her role as a vigilante after subduing her sister, Trish Walker. While Jessica could argue that she remains a PI rather than a masked hero, her superpowers would likely tip the scale against her. 6 Iron Fist Was Last Seen In Japan But Could Return Home See Iron First Close Danny Rand left New York at the end of Iron Fist, traveling to Japan in search of answers about the mystical powers of the Iron Fist. However, Rand Enterprises remains based in the city, and his ties to Colleen Wing could eventually bring him back. Given his commitment to protecting the innocent, it’s unlikely Danny would ignore Kingpin’s oppressive rule. Danny Rand’s training in K’un-Lun and his status as the Iron Fist mean he sees himself as a sworn defender against corruption. If he returns to NYC, Danny would inevitably clash with Fisk, continuing his role as a crimefighter despite any legal restrictions Kingpin enforces. The larger question, however, is whether this rendition of Iron Fist would return as perhaps the least popular aspect of Netflix’s Defenders saga. 5 Luke Cage Owns A Nightclub In Harlem See Luke Cage Close After the events of Luke Cage season 2, Luke took control of the nightclub Harlem’s Paradise. In doing so, Luke positioned himself as the unofficial protector of Harlem. While he’s taken a more pragmatic approach to crime-fighting, his moral compass wouldn’t allow him to stand by while Kingpin enforces draconian laws. Related After 17 Years Of The MCU, I'm Convinced These Are 10 Best Changes The Movies Have Made To Marvel Characters To adapt characters from comic to screen, the MCU had to make some essential changes to some Marvel characters which improved their depictions. Posts Luke Cage’s bulletproof skin and superhuman strength make him one of the most physically imposing heroes in New York. If Kingpin’s laws push the city into chaos, Luke could be forced to step back into the role of a vigilante. Even if he initially tries to work within the system, any direct move against Harlem would see Luke Cage rise up to defend his people, law or no law. 4 Doctor Strange Is Based Out Of The New York Sanctum Sanctorum See Spider-Man: No Way Home Close Doctor Strange operates primarily from the Sanctum Sanctorum in Greenwich Village. While he’s largely detached from local crime, he’s still very much an active force in New York City. As the Sorcerer Supreme, his responsibilities extend beyond earthly laws, making any edict from Kingpin entirely irrelevant to him. If faced with a dire mystical threat, Strange will undoubtedly intervene, which may qualify him as a vigilante under Fisk’s laws. That said, his mastery of the Mystic Arts places him far beyond the reach of ordinary law enforcement. While he might not openly challenge Kingpin on street-level matters, if Fisk’s influence threatens New York’s stability, Strange would act – likely in ways Kingpin wouldn’t even see coming. 3 Ms. Marvel Might Be Just Out Of Kingpin's Purview See The Marvels Close Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel primarily operates in Jersey City. This keeps her just outside of Kingpin’s immediate reach. However, with her growing connections to the superhero community and team-ups with figures like Carol Danvers and Kate Bishop, it’s only a matter of time before she’s drawn into New York’s conflicts. If Kamala Khan crosses into the city and uses her polymorphic powers, she would instantly be in violation of Fisk’s vigilante laws. Given her admiration for heroes and her strong moral code, Kamala wouldn’t back down if innocent lives were at stake. Though she might try to stay under the radar, her heroism would inevitably bring her into Kingpin’s crosshairs. 2 Misty Knight Is On The Verge Of Her Heroic Transformation See Iron Fist Close Misty Knight, an NYPD detective, received a high-tech bionic arm after losing her limb in The Defenders. Though she remained within law enforcement, Misty’s moral compass often led her to work outside the system. In the comics, Misty becomes a fully-fledged vigilante after receiving her bionic arm. She is therefore poised to ascend to her heroic persona by the end of Iron Fist. Related After 17 Years Of MCU Movies & Shows, I'm Convinced These Are The 10 Worst Villains Made By Marvel's Own Heroes Some villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe were created by the heroes, through accidental collateral damage, poor decisions, or neglect. Posts 5 If Kingpin enforces laws against vigilantes, Misty could find herself in a difficult position – either enforce corrupt laws or take a stand. Given her history with Luke Cage and Colleen Wing, it’s likely she would choose justice over legality. If Misty fully embraces her comic book counterpart’s path as a superhero, she could become one of Kingpin’s most unexpected enemies. 1 Colleen Wing Has Become The Next Iron Fist See Iron Fist Close Colleen Wing inherited the power of the Iron Fist at the end of Iron Fist season 2, making her one of the most formidable fighters in New York. Though she has tried to operate more covertly, any crackdown on vigilantes would include her. Her skills in martial arts, combined with her glowing fist, make her a direct threat to Fisk’s authority. Colleen has always fought for the people of New York, and she wouldn’t stand idly by while Kingpin enforces oppressive laws. With her deep ties to Misty Knight and Danny Rand, she could easily become a key figure in resisting Kingpin’s rule. Whether operating alone or alongside the Defenders, Colleen would undoubtedly break Kingpin’s laws in Daredevil: Born Again to protect the city.Your Rating close 10 stars 9 stars 8 stars 7 stars 6 stars 5 stars 4 stars 3 stars 2 stars 1 star Rate Now 0/10 Leave a Review Your comment has not been saved Daredevil: Born Again TV-MA Crime Action Superhero Thriller Adventure 9/10 80 9.6/10 Release Date March 4, 2025 Showrunner Chris Ord Directors Michael Cuesta, Aaron Moorhead, Justin Benson, Jeffrey Nachmanoff Writers Chris Ord Franchise Daredevil, Marvel Cinematic Universe Cast See All
