Manchester United have seen two bids rejected for England centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite this summer and speculation has been rife that the Toffees will sell if their £70million valuation is met.
Everton manager Sean Dyche has rebuffed suggestions that the signing of Jake O'Brien is reinforcement for Jarrad Branthwaite's departure to Manchester United.
Dyche addressed the media speculation while speaking to Sky Sports, stating: "No way! You're kidding me! I'm very surprised you've put two and two together at Everton Football Club. It's nothing to do with that. It's just to do with trying to model the club with the finances available. Obviously we're stretched at the moment with depth.
Everton have cashed in on one of their brightest talents by selling Belgium international Amadou Onana to Aston Villa, a move which has handed the Toffees a cool £50m and eased their financial worries. "The good thing is we already signed two players, but it belongs to a club like Manchester United that you are still looking - if the opportunity is there - for better and we still have time, until August 30."
