Four days before the Women's Merseyside derby got underway at Anfield, Megan Finnigan cut a defiant figure inside the media suite at Walton Hall Park.

It had been a frantic opening at Anfield, with Missy Bo Kearns at the epicentre of the contest's two big early flash points. Inside the first minute, the Liverpool midfielder got into a tangle with Lucy Hope. And it was the Blues who looked to be in the ascendency for much of the second half, with Katja Snoeijs drawing a superb save from Rachael Laws before hitting the bar with a fine, curling effort.
But ultimately, it was Everton's defensive fortitude that won the day. Brian Sorensen has been quick to downplay the bruising impact of his side's slow start to the season in recent weeks.
