Doctor Who’s worst episode of the modern era is disliked among fans, and it has now been revealed that the star of “Love & Monsters” agrees.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Doctor Who episode “Love & Monsters" is considered the worst installment of the show's modern era, and the fans aren't the only ones who don't like it. Starring Marc Warren and Peter Kay, season 2's “Love & Monsters” is a Doctor-lite episode that tells a story from the point of view of a group of bystanders.
Kay plays the Abzorbaloff, who is the main antagonist of "Love & Monsters." The alien creature absorbs people, and their faces then appear on his body. Nine-year-old William Grantham created this Doctor Who villain for Blue Peter's "Design a Doctor Who Monster" competition. Unfortunately for him, “Love & Monsters” is considered one of the worst Doctor Who episodes ever, with the lack of the Doctor and his companion being a big reason for that.
Kay mentioned that “crap or not," it was brilliant to be part of Doctor Who. He even almost bought a plastic figure of the Abzorbaloff that he found when in New York a decade after the episode aired. It may be a poorly voted episode, but it has been remembered for being so, and the Abzorbaloff is considered an iconic monster. Kay says if showbiz ever stops for him, he will be found “at one of those sci-fi conventions… signing pictures of the Abzorbaloff for a tenner each.
Why Doctor Who's Love & Monsters Episode Is So Unpopular One reason for Doctor Who's “Love & Monsters” episode being so heavily disliked is because of its lack of the Doctor and Rose Tyler. However, this shouldn't be a significant issue because “Blink” is also a Doctor-lite installment and is considered one of Doctor Who's best episodes.
Another major issue with “Love & Monsters” concerns the ending. Shirley Henderson plays Ursula Blake, who is Elton’s love interest and is absorbed by the Abzorbaloff. At the end of “Love & Monsters”, Ursula is kind of saved after being absorbed, and the Doctor manages to move her face onto a concrete slab. Elton vows to love her anyway, and they stay together, which feels unfulfilling as an ending and is also pretty creepy.
