In Europe’s first operational Hyperloop facility, researchers completed a record-breaking vacuum capsule test, simulating an 88-mile journey.

Tests hit a milestone, simulating an 88-mile hyperloop journey on a 7.3-mile track, reaching 303.4 mph, scaled to 25.3 mph in low-pressure tests. The test was conducted by a team that included personnel from EPFL , the School of Business and Engineering Vaud , and Swisspod Technologies as part of the Linear Induction Motor Drive for Traction and Levitation in Sustainable Hyperloop Systems project.

According to the team, the experiment’s success has important ramifications for the high-speed transportation industry since it illustrates fundamental ideas of hyperloop technology and its feasibility for quick and environmentally friendly travel in the future. The Hyperloop, which consists of a low-pressure tube system and a totally electric vehicle, has the potential to revolutionize intracontinental transport while also being environmentally friendly.

The capsule operated autonomously with onboard power for propulsion and levitation. Key systems were evaluated for energy use, thrust, and control across various speed phases.
