Alaska Rep. Mary Peltola’s office announced Wednesday that her husband, Eugene “Buzzy” Peltola Jr., has died in a plane crash. Peltola communications director Sam Erickson said Peltola was the only occupant of a plane that crashed near St. Mary’s. Clint Johnson, the Alaska chief of the National Transportation Safety Board, said the crash took place Tuesday evening, about 60 miles northeast of St. Mary’s.
In a media release, Anton McParland, Peltola’s chief of staff, said the representative was traveling to Alaska to be with her family. McParland described Eugene Peltola as a devoted family man who was “one of those people who was obnoxiously good at everything.”
