He said the Easter break saw a higher number of visitors compared to the same period last year.
"We are pleased that as the city, we experienced an increase in the number of visitors during the Easter Holidays by over 65% compared to 63% in the same period last year. "We have no doubt that when our visitors arrived in the city, they found our streets and tourism precincts clean. This demonstrates that our efforts to clean the city are beginning to yield desired results."Kaunda said they are also crossing their fingers that Durban will be chosen to host the BRICS summit due to be held in South Africa later this year.
On the city's energy plan announced earlier this year, Kaunda says thousands of jobs will be created through the programme. "As we are trying to find permanent solutions to ensure the city has a secured supply of electricity, work is at an advance stage to procure 400 megawatts from independent power producers. This R10 billion investment will create over 8 000 job opportunities in the short-term."
