An auspicious meteor shower that is expected to peak on the day of King Charles III's coronation will send up to 50 shooting stars an hour across our skies.
Most meteors burn up completely before they reach the Earth's surface, but occasionally larger meteoroids may survive and land on the Earth's surface as meteorites. Meteors can appear as quick streaks of light, sometimes leaving a trail behind them. According to NASA, the Eta Aquarids are little pieces of rock that have fallen off Halley's Comet. The bits that fall off are left drifting in the space rock's trail.
