Estée Lauder creates North America Fragrance Cluster, appointing Vérane de Marffy as SVP to oversee Kilian Paris, Jo Malone London, Tom Ford Beauty.
As part of the move, Vérane de Marffy will join the Estée Lauder Cos. as senior vice president, general manager of fragrances, North America, effective Monday, overseeing the acceleration of the fragrance cluster in the region.
De Marffy will directly manage the Kilian Paris and Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle businesses in the region, with responsibility for driving top- and bottom-line growth, strengthening local relevance and building long-term brand equity strategies. She will also oversee Jo Malone London, Tom FordShe began her career at L’Oréal where she held global and regional roles across prestige fragrance, makeup and skin care brands, including as global deputy general manager for Ralph Lauren Fragrances; senior vice president of marketing for Yves Saint Laurent Beauty USA; senior vice president of marketing for Lancôme USA, and general manager USA for the Ralph Lauren, Azzaro, Maison Margiela and Atelier Cologne brands.
Most recently, she served as chief marketing officer at William Grant & Sons. Tara Simon, president, the Americas, said: “Fragrance continues to be the belle of the ball. It is a fast-growing category and attracting new and younger consumers at a clip. It is also bringing a new level of fun and creativity, with consumers embracing scent layering, investing in entire scent wardrobes, and trying and buying minis and other new formats.
“The fragrance fervor is directly lifting ELC brands, and as a company, we have invested to meet the demand in innovation, creative and marketing, our retail presence and also, talent,” she continued. “It is the right moment to unify our portfolio under a single cluster and leader. We are so pleased to have Vérane with us to lead an already deep bench across our fragrance brands.
”Still, its offering is not as broad as some of its competitors and it according to the lates data, it doesn’t have any of the tope 10 fragrances in the U.S. in April, with four of the top 10 fragrances sold during the month belonging to YSL. Those were: Myslf, Libre, Y Eau de Parfum and Myslf Le Parfum, three of which are men’s fragrances.
The rest of the list included Valentino Beauty, Sol de Janeiro, Kayali, Carolina Herrera , Burberry, Dior Beauty, Prada Beauty, Dolce & Gabbana and Armani Beauty. The prospect of broadening its fragrance offering was thought to be one of the driving factors behind the merger talks with Puig, which came to an end last month.
