Seth Greenberg praises Steven Pearl's coaching while Jay Bilas emphasizes rebounding as the Tigers face their third top-3 opponent this season.
is set to finish the trifecta as they travel to McKale Memorial Center for their matchup against No. 2 Arizona Saturday night. The Tigers sit at 7-2 overall and rank No. 20 in this week’s AP top-25 poll after knocking off NC State this week in the ACC/SEC Challenge.
However, after falling to Houston and Michigan earlier this season, Auburn coach Steven Pearl is excited about the Tigers’ first true road game. “Another great opportunity on Saturday to play arguably the best team in college basketball, alongside Michigan and Houston at this point,” Pearl said Thursday. “It keeps you up at night, and you can’t ever relax. But it’s great for our guys to go up against such great teams.”hosts Seth Greenberg and Jay Bilas spoke with the media Friday afternoon breaking down the Tigers matchup with the Wildcats.“First off, I would like to say Steven Pearl has done an incredible job,”. “Like, when you get punched in the face, like they did against Michigan, and then they have to bounce back, 18 hours later, and play a Rick Pitino coached, St. John’s team, and then turn around and fly back from Vegas, and then play NC State and keep your team focused, I think Steven’s done a really, really good job.” AUBURN, AL - OCTOBER 01 - Auburn Head Coach Steven Pearl - Auburn Men’s Basketball 2025 Pro Day at Neville Arena in Auburn, AL on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025. Photo by Zach Bland/Auburn TigersGreenberg also highlighted the matchup between Arizona freshman Koa Peat and Auburn’s Keyshawn Hall. Hall currently leads the Tigers in points and rebounds, averaging 21.8 points and 9.1 rebounds through nine games this season. Peat averages 15.6 points while shooting 53.9% from the floor. “The way they use Keyshawn Hall is terrific, and I think that’s going to be interesting, cause do they go small against Arizona, and then make Koa Peat defend out in the perimeter?” Greenberg said. “Keyshawn Hall is shooting 46.9% from 3-point range and will kind of invert their defense with his closeouts. But then Keyshawn is going to have to defend him in the paint. So, that matchup is going to be interesting.” Bilas spoke about how rebounding will be a huge factor on if Auburn will win or lose the game. Auburn is averaging 39.2 rebounds per game this season compared to Arizona’s 42.6 rebounds per game. “Pat Riley used to say, No rebounds, no rings. If you don’t rebound against Arizona, forget it,” Bilas said. “Both teams do a good job on the offensive glass. Arizona’s statistically a better offensive rebounding team than Auburn. But Auburn’s defensive rebounding has been a sore spot early on in the season,” Bilas added. “I think that’s something that can be corrected. However, it’s got to be a gang rebounding mentality for Auburn against Arizona if they want to win that game.” The matchup between Auburn and Arizona is set for 9 p.m. CT on Saturday. The game will be televised on ESPN. Jerry Humphrey III is an Auburn Sports Beat Writer for AL.com since Oct. 2024, covering football, basketball and all things Auburn sports.
