Eskom’s failure to reduce its poisonous gas emissions has catapulted it to the position of largest air polluter in the world, lagging behind Chinese utilities that have carried out major retrofit programmes on their power stations. | City_Press

If the power utility could fully comply with minimum emission standards at all its coal-fired plants that are scheduled to operate beyond 2030, it would avoid a projected 2 300 deaths per year from air pollution and economic costs of R42 billion per year, starting from 2025.
