The ANC said in its letter that De Ruyter’s remarks were “intended to mean, and can be understood by any reasonable person to mean, that the ANC has stolen money from Eskom or that it has received money from Eskom through corrupt and unethical means”. Moreover, it said, the ANC was of the view that the statement was made with the intention to do just that. Alternatively, it was made recklessly, with no regard for the consequences.
