But the upcoming six-episode limited series Eric makes a good argument for having a standout premise of its own.
What's Eric About? Cumberbatch Plays An Actor Cumberbatch portrays Vincent, one of New York’s leading puppeteers. He's also the creator of a very popular children’s television show. However, Vincent's life turns into chaos when his young son goes missing on the way to school. Vincent understandably struggles to cope with the loss of his son, Edgar, and he becomes increasingly volatile.
Vincent clings to his son’s drawings of a blue monster puppet, named Eric, in particular. Vincent becomes convinced that if Eric appears on television, then Edgar will return home. Vincent's destructive behavior alienates those around him, with Eric becoming his only supporter. Along with Cumberbatch, the thriller's cast includes Transparent star Gaby Hoffmann as Cassie, Ozark's McKinley Belcher III as lead detective Ledroit, and newcomer Ivan Howe as Edgar.
