The state grid operator is moving ahead with costly plans to shut down the biggest of three aging generating units at CPS Energy’s Braunig Power Station for an early inspection to determine whether it could keep running after its scheduled retirement. If not, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas will be facing new challenges finding generating capacity it needs to keep the grid reliable through 2026, it told its board Tuesday.
