The U.K. prime minister faces fresh pressure after a second senior aide quit, amid backlash over Peter Mandelson’s ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
A second senior aide to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has resigned as the political fallout from the Jeffrey Epstein scandal continued to mount, deepening pressure on the Labour leader just a day after his chief of staff quit over the controversial appointment of Peter Mandelson as U.
K. ambassador to the United States. Starmer’s executive director of communications, Tim Allan, announced on Monday that he was stepping down “to allow a new No10 team to be built,” following Sunday’s resignation of chief of staff Morgan McSweeney, who said he took full responsibility for advising Starmer to appoint Mandelson despite concerns about his past ties to Epstein, the late financier and convicted sex offender. Allan's departure adds to the turmoil engulfing 10 Downing Street after newly released U.S. Justice Department documents reignited scrutiny of Mandelson’s relationship with Epstein and sparked a police investigation in the U.K. U.K. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer speaking during a visit to Horntye Park Sports Complex in St Leonard's on Sea near Hastings, East Sussex, on Thursday February 5, 2026.
