Newly released Jeffrey Epstein documents mention Bill Gates, leading to responses from Gates himself and his ex-wife, Melinda French Gates. The documents include emails where Epstein claimed to have assisted Gates, prompting Gates to deny any improper conduct and express regret for associating with Epstein. Melinda French Gates discussed the painful memories the revelations brought back and expressed sadness for Epstein's victims.
On Friday, the Department of Justice released a new trove of Jeffrey Epstein documents, a few of which included mentions of billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates . In emails Epstein appeared to have sent to himself in 2013, Epstein claimed to have helped Gates obtainGates had supposedly contracted.
In the wake of all this, his ex-wife, Melinda French Gates — who has suggested Bill’s Epstein ties were one of the “Whatever questions remain there of what — I can’t even begin to know all of it — those questions are for those people and for even my ex-husband,” Melinda said in an podcast on Tuesday, which will be released in full Thursday. “They need to answer to those things, not me.” Melinda said the new mentions of Bill in the files brought back memories of “very painful times” in her marriage, and added that she’s “happy to be away from all the muck” but feels “unbelievable sadness” for Epstein’s victims. “I’m able to take my own sadness and look at those young girls and say,” she said. “At least for me, I’ve been able to move on in life, and I hope there’s some justice for those now-women.” In a statement sent to The Cut on Wednesday, a spokesperson for Bill called Epstein’s claims about him “absolutely absurd and completely false,” asserting that the only thing the files prove “is Epstein’s frustration that he did not have an ongoing relationship with Gates and the lengths he would go to entrap and defame.” “While Mr. Gates acknowledges that meeting with Epstein was a serious error in judgment, he unequivocally denies any improper conduct related to Epstein and the horrible activities in which Epstein was involved,” the spokesperson added. “Mr. Gates never visited Epstein’s island, never attended parties with him, and had no involvement in any illegal activities associated with Epstein.”on Wednesday, Bill also said he “regrets” associating with the disgraced financier. “Apparently, Jeffrey wrote an email to himself. That email was never sent,” he said. “The email is false. I don’t know what his thinking was there. Was he trying to attack me in some way? Every minute I spent with him, I regret, and I apologize that I did that.” Bill said he met Epstein in 2011 and “only went to dinners” with him until 2014, stressing that their relationship was focused on philanthropy. “The focus was always, he knew a lot of very rich people, and he was saying he could get them to give money to global health. In retrospect, that was a dead end,” he said. “I was foolish to spend time with him. I was one of many people who regret ever knowing him.”, the two first met at Epstein’s New York City townhouse in 2011, less than two years after Epstein was released from prison after pleading guilty to prostitution of an underage girl. In anwith Gayle King in 2022, Melinda opened up about why their marriage ended. “It’s not one thing; it was many things,” she said. “But I did not like that he had meetings with Jeffrey Epstein, no … I made that clear to him.” Melinda said she met Epstein only once and immediately “regretted” it. “He was abhorrent. He was evil personified,” she said. “I had nightmares about it afterwards.”28 Best Sneakers for Women in Every Single StyleMeredith Hayden Says She Was Roofied at a Hollywood PartyThe Celebrity Doctor in the Epstein Files‘Help!
