The Enterprise Wildcats boys wrestling team secured second place at the Mountain Brook Invitational. Five Wildcats emerged as champions, while others placed in the top four. Dramatic championship matches highlighted the tournament.

Behind five individual champions and four other top four finishers, the Enterprise boys wrestling team finished as runner-up at Saturday’s Mountain Brook Invitational . The host Spartans won the tournament with 254.5 points. The Wildcats had 171.5 points to easily take second ahead of McAdory (145.5) at the nine-team tournament. Individually, five Wildcats won titles – Bayani Galvez (115-pound weight class), Karter Stiffler (122), Kameron Stiffler (134), Grier Hunt (146) and Kody Sigmon (167).

Paxton Hanshaw (128) and Gavin Whiteside (192) finished as a runner up, while Ty Gilbert (140) took third and Alex Braman (152) placed fourth. Sigmon, Kameron Stiffler and Hunt all won their titles with dramatic championship matches. Sigmon won his title match against Thompson’s Wyatt Carroll on a two-point reverse with nine seconds left to squeeze out a 13-12 victory. Carroll had a takedown and four-point takedown late in the third and final period to overcome a 9-2 deficit and take a 12-11 lead. Kameron Stiffler took his title on a two-point reverse with 36 seconds left to edge Mountain Brook’s Davis Smith 10-9 after falling behind following a takedown and four-point near fall in the final period by Smith, a Class 6A third-place state finisher last year. Hunt also had a battle for his title, earning a 1-0 decision in the 146-pound championship match over Mountain Brook’s Bill Bradford. An escape by Hunt in the second period was the only scoring. Galvez won both of his matches to earn his title. He won by fall over Thompson’s Lucas Turner late in the second period (3:51) and in the first period over Mountain Brook’s Conner Leady (39 seconds). Karter Stiffler won two matches after a first-round bye, both wins coming by pinfall. He pinned Pelham’s Paul Peerson late in the first period (1:46) in the semifinals before pinning McAdory’s Marion Wilkerson-Sanders late in the second period (3:44) in the championship match
