Graham Thorpe committed suicide after a tough battle against anxiety and depression, his heartbroken widow has said in an emotional interview.
The Mirror reports she revealed her heartache at his passing in an interview with The Times. The England and Wales Cricket Board announced on August 5 that he had passed away. A ceremony was held on Saturday in Farnham to remember Thorpe, who spent 17 years playing for Surrey and earned 100 Test caps for England as a brilliant middle-order batter.
"But mental illness is a real disease and can affect anyone." His daughter Kitty said: "We are not ashamed of talking about it. There is nothing to hide and it is not a stigma. "In the England team of the 1990s and early 2000s, he was my best mate. The person I felt most comfortable with. I loved him. We all loved him."
