BREAKING: England and Wales record lowest coronavirus deaths for 15 weeks
Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced lockdown measures on March 23 and in that week 539 deaths involving coronavirus were registered, according to ONS figures.The latest weekly figure of 532 Covid-19 deaths accounted for 5.8% of all deaths across the two nations.Some 63.5% of Covid-19 deaths occurred in hospital, with the remainder mainly in care homes , private homes and hospices ., the number of deaths involving Covid-19 continued to decrease or remained similar across all English regions.
Five of the nine regions had fewer overall deaths than the five-year average in the week up to July 3. The weekly number of coronavirus deaths has fallen to its lowest level since lockdown was first introduced. In Wales, the weekly number of deaths involving Covid-19 slightly increased to 35, up from 30 deaths the week before.
Of all deaths recorded in care homes, the proportion that involved coronavirus decreased to 9.2%, the ONS said.
