Beloved restaurant to remain open until the end of August, mayor reports
The colorful, much-loved owner of the soon-to-close Captain Keno’s restaurant now has a city proclamation honoring his contributions to Encinitas.
Sova couldn’t attend the event because he recently had broken a hip, the mayor said. But he sent two representatives, one of whom held up a photo from long ago of Sova with his “flowing mane of black hair.” “He served a role in the community that was a little bit different,” Encinitas resident John Gjata said as he asked the council if there might be some way to continue Sova’s legacy.
In a video played during the Planning Commission hearing, Sova said, “I would like it to stay the way it is, but, of course, that’s impossible. …. We have to face the facts of life …. family will have the money, instead of the problems.”
