Encanto director Jared Bush resolves a supposed plot hole by explaining how Bruno knows what telenovelas are in the most glaringly obvious way.
Encanto co-director Jared Bush resolves a supposed Bruno plot hole involving telenovelas. A Disney regular known for Zootopia and Moana, Bush co-directed Encanto along with Byron Howard and Charise Castro Smith. The animated musical underperformed at the box office when it debuted in 2021, though it exploded in popularity once it was released on Disney+ a month later.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Encanto takes place in the mountains of Colombia during an unspecified time during the early 1900s. Because of this setting, viewers were confused by Bruno's knowledge of telenovelas, considering television wasn't invented until 1927, and turn, considered this a plot hole.
Due to his tragic fate, Bruno's gift of foresight could more charitably be described as a curse. He has the power to observe the events of the future but has little to no ability to actually change them and is unfairly blamed for it. When he foresaw the destruction of Casita, Bruno flees with the vision glass, deciding his powers are doing the family more harm than good.
Considering Bruno's ability to see the future is integral to the movie's plot, it's pretty funny how fans overlooked this glaringly obvious explanation for this supposed plot hole. Given Bush's obvious explanation, the debate over this supposed Bruno plot hole can finally be put to rest. However, to keep Encanto fans occupied, there are a few more possible plot holes, such as Dolores hearing Bruno or Dolores appearing in multiple places at once.
