A juvenile worker has been identified as a suspect, police said.

Police are warning customers to check their groceries after they say an employee put sewing needles in food at a Lehigh County grocery store.

State police were contacted Wednesday for food tampering at the Giant grocery store at 7150 Hamilton Boulevard in Lower Macungie Township. A juvenile, now a former employee, has been identified as a suspect, and charges are forthcoming, troopers with the Fogelsville barracks said Thursday.A Giant spokesperson could not immediately be reached for comment.

State police are urging customers to check their food especially if they bought items between Thursday, April 13, and Wednesday, April 19, from the Lower Macungie store.State police said the juvenile worked at the store and put sewing needles in bagged vegetables and Tastykake packages. Tampered items were returned by customers, troopers said.

Anyone with information about the incident may call the Pennsylvania State Police Fogelsville Criminal Investigation Unit at 610-395–1438. Customers who find needles should call police and return the item to a Giant store, Branosky said.
