Former Australian Olympic swimmer James Magnussen has offered his insight into Mollie O’Callaghan’s performance in the women’s 100 metre freestyle final at the Paris Olympic Games.

The race kicked off the wall on Thursday morning , with the young Aussie, who has already won two gold medals, this time missing out on medalling." with the likes of Swede and world record holder of the event Sarah Sjöström and Hong Kong Siobhan Haughey.

“Firstly, there is the fatigue factor. She races night one, 4 x 100 relay - gold medal, sky high emotionally. Johns asked his co-host if he were O’Callaghan’s coach, what would he have suggested in light of her relative inexperience in navigating the rollercoaster of emotions in the “imperfect” living conditions.

“The other thing that Mollie spoke about tonight was, in her press conference afterwards, she said ‘I was just too nervous, the nerves got the better of me’.
