Emma Stone won the Oscar for best actress Sunday, a win that many considered to be one of the biggest upsets of the night.

The best actress race was considered one of the tighter competitions earlier this awards season, with Lily Gladstone and Stone each winning top prizes. But as the Oscars approached, Gladstone appeared to have emerged as the favorite to win best actress. She hadfollowing her breakout performance in Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” in which she played Mollie Burkhart, a 1920s Osage woman whose family was brutally targeted for their oil head rights.
Stone, after winning the Oscar, celebrated Gladstone, too. “Lily, I share this with you. I’m in awe of you.”
