This year's ballot features 17 nominees, including Pat Benatar, Lionel Richie, Carly Simon, Rage Against the Machine and more.
. Yet, here we are with another list of nominees.
Several of those names will turn heads, including Eminem, who will look to become the latest first-ballot hip-hop inductee following the likes of Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G. and Jay-Z. Dolly Parton, if elected, would become just the second traditional country artist to be voted into the Rock Hall in the “Performers” category. Johnny Cash was inducted in 1992.
Carly Simon’s wait for a nomination has been much longer after becoming eligible in 1997. It’s a similar situation for Lionel Richie who had yet to earn a nomination solo or with his band the Commodores. An artist is eligible for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after releasing its first official recording.
Fela Kuti and Pat Benatar return to the ballot after performing well in previous years’ fan votes. Speaking of which, the Fan Vote for the Class of 2022 is now live on the Rock Hall’s website. The top five acts in the poll will comprise one fan ballot included with more than 1,000 other ballots from historians, journalists and living Rock Hall Inductees.
