Emily Deschanel at the premiere of Shrinking
Deschanel is set to star in a new NBC crime drama whose pilot episode is currently in the works. Best known for her title role on Bones, Deschanel's career has included roles in a number of network TV shows and streaming originals, including other crime shows.
Her latest TV role was as psychiatrist Dr. Suzanne Mathis in Netflix's Devil in Ohio. Now, according to Variety, Deschanel will be starring in a pilot for a currently untitled crime drama created by Dean Georgaris and John Fox. She will portray Professor Georgia Ryan, a psychologist who looks at criminal cases through the lens of the victim rather than the criminal. Georgia works with a team of FBI agents to solve cases that elude them. The pilot, which was ordered by NBC in January, pulls inspiration from the real-world cases of author and profiler Dr. Ann Burgess. If the pilot ends up getting picked up for a full series, it would be the second time Deschanel has portrayed a network TV crime investigator, making it the perfect replacement for Bones. The show is the latest in news for the cast of Bones earning major roles in major, upcoming TV series. Deschanel's co-star, David Boreanaz, has recently been confirmed as the new Jim Rockford in NBC's The Rockford Files reboot, taking over James Garner's iconic role in the process. While not much is known about the untitled series as of writing, Deschanel's previous experience means she's a perfect match for the role of Georgia Ryan. In addition to being a major new role as a criminal investigator, it will be her second time leading a series on network TV. It makes the untitled show an important milestone for her acting career. Although there's no guarantee the pilot gets picked up by NBC, its confirmation would mean a show starring both leads on Bones would be running on the network at the same time. It's a level of both nostalgia and brand synergy the network would be remiss to pass up on, especially since both actors are still well-known. It may be some time before the extent of Deschanel's new pilot and whether it gets picked up are revealed. However, the series seems like a promising new take on the typical crime investigation series, putting victims first instead of perpetrators. With inspiration coming from the real world, it could become a major new entry in NBC's slate, harking back to Deschanel's Bones role in the process. 69 9.4/10 Bones 10 stars 9 stars 8 stars 7 stars 6 stars 5 stars 4 stars 3 stars 2 stars 1 star Like Follow Followed TV-14 Crime Drama Release Date 2005 - 2017 Network FOX Showrunner Hart Hanson Directors Ian Toynton, Dwight H.
