Hopkins said they receive around 400 emergency calls every day. When inclement weather hits Austin, that number increases by the hundred. Hopkins said the best way to avoid falling victim to the artic blast is staying inside. Emergency Medicine Physician at St. David's, Ryan McCorkle, said besides physical injuries, doctors are concerned about emergency medical conditions freezing temperatures can cause.
To avoid these situations, both say its important to stay inside as much as possible this week. Hopkins recommends stocking up on food and water for a 24-72 hour period, and make sure your prescriptions are filled.
