Concerns regarding the health of 84-year-old Senator Mitch McConnell have intensified following the release of emergency dispatch audio. The audio, originally posted on X by independent journalist Desiree Townsend and first reported by Punchbowl News, details an EMS call referencing Advanced Life Support ( ALS) units dispatched shortly before 9am ET to McConnell's Capitol Hill residence on the day of his sudden hospitalization last month.
First responders reportedly found the longtime senator 'unconscious' at the scene. The identity of the individual who placed the emergency call, which occurred at the home he shares with his wife Elaine Chao, 73, remains unconfirmed. McConnell has remained hospitalized since June 14.
While a spokesperson initially stated he was "receiving excellent care" and later noted he was "working closely with staff" remotely, no official details about his condition at the time of the incident have been publicly confirmed, and a spokesman declined comment to the Daily Mail regarding the dispatch audio. This latest health scare adds to a pattern of incidents that have fueled public scrutiny over the senator's fitness.
In February, he was hospitalized for approximately a week due to flu-like symptoms. Since 2023, he has experienced multiple falls resulting in injuries and occasional wheelchair use. Notably, during several public appearances, he has had brief episodes where he suddenly froze and was unable to speak for several seconds. McConnell, who stepped down from GOP leadership last year and announced he will not seek reelection, had been voting in the Senate as recently as ten days before his June hospitalization.
